TROY – Kourtney Jamal Tuck at Troy University has been named to “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.”
Tuck, a Madison resident, had to satisfy all qualifications related to campus involvement and student leadership to receive an invitation to Who’s Who. Upperclassmen and graduate students are eligible for the honor.
“I decided to attend Troy University for its mid-size and personal feel. My uncle is an alumnus of Troy University and that played a role in my choice,” Tuck said.
At Troy, Tuck has been involved with numerous clubs and organizations. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and NAACP. He worked as a graduate assistant in Student Involvement and Leadership and as an intramural referee. Tuck has served as president of National Pan-Hellenic Council and has been involved with Sigma Alpha Sigma.
In his academic studies, Tuck has achieved a GPA of 3.7.
“I have been involved in tutoring high school students in the Upward Bound program in the Student Support Services office,” Tuck said. “I have mentored students at Charles Henderson Middle School. I have volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Pike County as a referee for flag football, as well as for other activities.”
“My father is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of 28 years. My mother has worked for the school system. I have two older sisters — Taneka, 34, and Kiesha, 27,” Tuck said.
He is enrolled in the Masters of Public Administration program with a concentration in public health. “My graduate degree is in human services from Troy University as well,” Tuck said.
Other local students in Who’s Who at Troy are Cassidy Counter of Madison and Amara Ihediwa of Huntsville. Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. and Troy First Lady Janice Hawkins honored Who’s Who recipients with a reception at the chancellor’s residence.
After graduation, Tuck plans to move to Dallas, Washington D.C. or Charlotte, N.C. and “work in a public sector capacity. I plan to eventually work for the Centers for Disease Control as a public health advisor,” Tuck said.
Troy University is a public, historic, international university with more than 145,000 alumni. On-campus students enjoy a traditional college experience, while adult students who work can attend classes in Dothan, Montgomery, Phenix City and online venues.
