MADISON – The air will fill with magic and a sense of fantasy when Madison Public Library presents “Once Upon a Winter’s Night.”
“Dust off your wands, air out your capes and exercise your wings because a magical evening is coming to the Madison Public Library,” Director of Public Relations Laura McPhail said. “Children, teens and adults are invited to join us for a special family-friendly, after-hours event on Feb. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m.”
“Our puppet show will feature adaptations of various children’s literature, including fairytales like ‘Rapunzel,'” Youth Services Librarian Lisa Blackmon said. “We will sprinkle in a few refreshers in manners so all are prepared to interact with the royalty the audience will encounter throughout the evening.”
The Youth Services staff is coordinating the puppet show and includes librarians Maggie Allen, LeAnna Whitaker, Teresa Allison and Blackmon. The library’s teen volunteers also are helping produce the show.
“We encourage everyone to wear pajamas or fairytale-themed costumes,” Blackmon said.
Once Upon a Winter’s Night will feature a dance segment. “Dancing will be informal and will include group dances simple enough for our youngest patrons to learn and enjoy,” Blackmon said. Assistant Branch Manager Amanda Campbell will be one of the dance leaders.
The featured movie will be Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” “Choosing the film she stars in seems to be an appropriate way to honor her since she will actually be joining us for part of the event, courtesy of generous local business Magical Memories,” Blackmon said. “We will also welcome princess Elsa from last year’s featured film, ‘Frozen.'”
These special guests from Magical Memories and a musical storytelling program are additions to the lineup of the successful 2016 event, which had attendance of more than 300, she said.
Madison Friends of the Library with support from the library’s community partner, Publix, will provide complimentary refreshments.
