MADISON – Dr. Steve Jones will present an informative session on “Using Nature as Inspiration for Living, Learning and Serving” at Madison Public Library.

Jones’ program is scheduled for Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. He is CEO of Great Blue Heron LLC, a start-up business for consulting, writing and speaking. He founded Blue Heron after semi-retiring as president of three universities.

Last year, the American Senior Assistance Program helped in scheduling a session for senior citizens at the library. “The event was a success, so we are trying to schedule a monthly program through ASAP for seniors and their caregivers,” library assistant manager Teresa Allison said.

Katy Disher, a senior literacy specialist with ASAP, coordinated the 2016 session and has arranged for Jones, her father, to speak this month at the library.

“ASAP’s goal is to assist individuals who are navigating through the health care system. We help people ‘finish well.’ Our objectives are to keep people in the least restrictive environment, while best preserving their assets,” Disher said.

Jones’ presentation is subtitled “Employing Nature’s Wisdom to Ensure Living and Aging with Grace, Fulfillment, Joy and Dignity.” He will explore ways that nature can help elderly individuals and their caregivers and nature’s role in inspiration, therapy and spirituality.

He will discuss “what led me to believe that every lesson for learning, serving, living and aging is written indelibly in and powerfully inspired by nature.” His lessons will review “human ecology, ‘the mighty oak,’ ‘clinging to our rock’ and our obligation to earth.”

Formerly, Jones served as CEO at Antioch University New England, Urbana University and University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The session can help “those who give care to the aging, folks who are approaching the sunset years, health professionals, managers and workers of senior care centers and nature enthusiasts,” Jones said.

Jones’ books are available at the publisher (LifeRich), Amazon and other outlets. Jones has published a new book and will conduct a book signing at the library on March 26 from 2 to 3 p.m. To contact Jones, email Steve.jones.0524@gmail.com or visit stevejonesgbh.com.
