MADISON – Construction has been progressing at a steady pace for Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church at 10097 Segers Road in Madison.

Mercy Parish has approximately 200 families and 550-plus members as of December 2016. Church leaders have developed “a campus vision to meet needs well into the future. When completed, Mercy Parish … will fully support its pastoral, religious formation, parish life activities and outreach ministries,” the church website states. (mostmercifuljesuschurch.org)

In July 2016, families held their first weekend Mass at Mill Creek Elementary School. Groundbreaking for their multi-purpose hall was held on Aug. 21, 2016. Initial support from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Diocese of Birmingham allowed Mercy Parish to start construction.

Parishioners and Bishop Baker will celebrate the Dedication Mass for the new multi-purpose building on March 30 at 6 p.m. The first Masses will be held in the multi-purpose building during the weekend of April 1-2.

Currently, Mercy Parish is conducting a Capital Campaign to supply adequate furnishings for their new facilities.

Initially, the multi-purpose building will serve as the church sanctuary and Parish Life Center. When fully complete, this building will provide space for the parish offices, Youth Services and accommodate religious education classes for Mercy Parish.

Church leaders have established a four-phase vision for their campus:

* Phase I — Build the multi-purpose building.

* Phase II — Build the main church.

* Phase III — Build the religious education facility and recreational fields.

* Phase IV — Build church office building and the rectory.

Father Joy Chalissery serves as priest.

Currently, Mass times are conducted Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the parish rectory, 11232 Dove Drive. For Mass on weekends, parishioners meet at Mill Creek Elementary School on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
