MADISON – Artwork by several artists at Bob Jones High School has been chosen for exhibit to audiences at a local museum, state venue and national department.

Bob Jones students Samantha Humphrey and Michael McGinley will represent their school for Youth Art Month at Huntsville Museum of Art.

Humphrey, who is a senior, creates in acrylic on board. Her work “is a study of humans’ interaction with water,” Bob Jones art teacher Robin Lakso said. “Michael McGinley is a freshman, and he is working with charcoal portraits.”

“All work will be honored and displayed at the Huntsville Museum of Art beginning on Feb 26 with a reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.,” Lakso said.

Jennifer Norton also teaches art at Bob Jones.

Lauren Pennington and Katherine Rodgers created winning entries for the Visual Art Achievement contest. Alabama State Council for the Arts sponsors Visual Art Achievement and awards blue ribbons to outstanding student art in five districts in Alabama.

“Lauren Pennington is also a senior and is focusing on pastel portraits of friends,” Lakso said. Katherine Rodgers, another senior, does surreal watercolors and has won Honorable Mention in the Southeast regional competition with Scholastic Young Artist and Writers.

Claudia Waddell, who is a junior, will represent Bob Jones in the Congressional Art Competition. U.S. Congressman Mo Brooks sponsors this activity each year.

“Art work is chosen to hang at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. for a year, and all who visit the Capitol have the chance to see student art from around the United States,” Lakso said.

Waddell is a junior and chooses to experiment with different media and genres. She received an honorable mention for this prestigious, national exhibit.

Art work by Pennington, Rodgers and Waddell will be on display in the Great Hall at Huntsville Museum of Art at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26.
