MADISON – A new Madison company can help veterans solve discouraging roadblocks for claims.

Dwayne Moorehouse started Eagle Rising Veteran Consulting LLC due to a frustrating experience in pursuing VA disability benefits. As a disabled veteran, Moorehouse assumed filing would be easy.

“Unfortunately, that was not the case. I was provided with little-to-no information, limited instructions to file my claim and left waiting for months with no updates,” Moorehouse said. “When I finally received my rating from the VA, they denied several service-connected disabilities, simply because my paperwork was not filled out correctly.”

Moorehouse recently retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4 from the Army after 23 years and realized he could help other veterans by explaining his experience. “I offer them support, knowledge and ensure they don’t make the same mistake that I made. I don’t want my military brothers and sisters to feel alone, while they go through this trying time.”

Most veterans don’t realize they’re entitled to these benefits. “Veterans selflessly sacrificed their bodies protecting our country. A majority will live with these injuries for the rest of their lives. They need financial assistance (because many) cannot work a normal job as a civilian,” Moorehouse said.

In opening Eagle Rising, Moorehouse’s major challenge has been obtaining knowledge. He has gained significant material from conversations with veterans.

“Madison is a target-rich environment. I interviewed veterans, starting with my wife Leila Moorehouse and sister-in-law Liane Pedroso,” he said.

To-date, Eagle Rising has not lost one claim and has 150-plus happy clients.

“Feedback has been excellent,” he said. “Word travels fast through the veteran community if you provide excellent service and deliver on your promises.”

Moorehouse works as an intermediate cybersecurity analyst at Millennium Engineering and Integration at Missile Defense Agency.

He grew up in Vista, Calif. Dwayne and Leila, a Madison native, have two daughters: Leilani Grace, 5, pre-kindergarten student at Rainbow Elementary School and Lily Adeline, 4, who attends Mother’s Morning Out at Madison United Methodist Church.

The Moorehouses attend First Baptist Church of Madison and have lived here since 2012. He is a member of Military Officers Association and Warrant Officer’s Association, Redstone Chapter.

Moorehouse earned a bachelor’s degree in aviation management from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree information technology and project management from Colorado Technical University. “However, I like to say I earned my stripes from the ‘school of hard knocks,’” he said.
