MADISON- Bob Jones wrapped up spring practice with an impressive 42-30 win over Giles Co. TN in a game played May 11 in Pulaski, TN.
The first and second teams played three quarters. Caden Rose and Dylan Ray alternated at quarterback and both played very good according to head coach Kevin Rose. Rose completed 10 of 18 passes 180 yards and 2 touchdowns while Ray was 9 of 12 for 115 yards 2 touchdowns and carried 7 times for 55 yards.
Demontrez Brown had a huge night with three touchdown catches and supplanted his standing as a solid SEC level recruit.
The rebuilt offensive line led by Caleb Lawson also played very well. Other receivers who got in some good action include Sam Barnes and Connor Henderson.
The offense put up 471 total yards with 295 passing and 176 rushing through three quarters.
On defense Kyle Parker and Jaydon Hill had interceptions. Kade Koler also had a good game from his linebacker position.
All told 82 players got in the game including eighth grader Slate Alford at quarterback.
“We are younger than we have ever been in my tenure,” Rose said. “We need to have a great summer to prepare for Phenix City, Austin, and JC right out of the gate.”
Bob Jones opens the season at Central-Phenix City on August 25.
“I like this team and believe they have great potential but they will have to grow up quick. We have to do a great job coaching this year. We have to have some leaders develop in all phases of the game. We have to be focused on the team and not individual goals and I think we will because this is a very unselfish group.”
Bob Jones had only 5 spring practices after losing one day to weather and moving up the spring game a day to avoid some predicted severe weather.
