Dora Heisey likes Madison’s schools, family feel

MADISON – A native Alabamian, Dora Heisey grew up in the small community of Town Creek, Alabama, about an hour west of the town of Madison. She graduated from Hazlewood High School.

“I moved to Madison over 20 years ago before my first son was born,” Dora said. “I’ve seen Madison grow and change over the past 20 years, but it still has a small-town feel.”

“The thing that I love most about Madison … it’s a wonderful place to raise a family. I absolutely love the schools, and my boys love the sports programs the city has to offer,” Dora said.

Recently, Dora decided to leave her full-time job and concentrate on growing her business, Heisey Jewelry Designs. “I love participating in the events around Madison and selling my handmade jewelry,” she said.

“This fall, I will be at Madison Street Festival on Oct. 7 and Taste of the Holidays Market. I also have a booth at Twisted Tree Vintage Market at 7670 Old Madison Pike,” Dora said. (For more information, visit Facebook/Heisey Jewelry Designs or heiseyjewelry.com.)

Dora and her husband Rich have three children. Blake, who is 20, lives in Atlanta. Nine-year-old Brendan and 10-year-old Aiden attend Heritage Elementary School and are in fourth and fifth grade, respectively.

“We love animals!” Dora said. “We have taken in several rescues. We have four dogs, four cats and a bearded dragon. We just recently added a bunny.”

Dora enjoys listening to music of all types, but country is her favorite.

When the Heisey family decides to eat out, most likely they will choose either Buena Vista Mexican restaurant or Outback Steakhouse.
