UAH to offer Army logistician advanced course

HUNTSVILLE – The University of Alabama in Huntsville will again offer the U.S. Army Senior Logistician Advanced Course.

Recently, the course brought senior government civilians from the Pentagon to UAH. Participants in the course were all upper level U.S. Army Logisticians at GS 13-15 level from all over the world. The UAH president and provost both participated in aspects of this course.

“We will offer this course again in September of 2017, as well as three offerings in 2018,” Susie Averitt said. Averitt is Program Administrator for Professional Development Solutions in the UAH College of Professional and Continuing Studies. “This advanced course helps Army leaders in building competency and more.”

In July, the course attracted high-caliber guest speakers, experienced facilitators, knowledgeable panel discussions and teambuilding exercises.

“Additionally, the participants’ collaborative efforts identifying strategic challenges in a Capstone exercise culminated in an out brief to John Hall, Deputy to the Commanding General at Combined Armed Support Command. He provided an impactful ending to a powerful two-week, deep-learning experience,” Averitt said.

UAH Program Director Lane Fabby worked with College of Business staff and advisory board members to design the curriculum around the 12 competencies for integrated product support. Additional sessions covered topics, such as “Managing in an ERP Centric Environment,” “Learning at an Executive Level” and “Innovation with Managing End-to-End Supply Chains.”

Midway in the course, participants visited Science Engineering Services or SES and Sanmina to learn best practices of supply chains from private sector industries. Guests at the closing dinner, held at Huntsville Botanical Garden, heard insights from UAH President Dr. Robert Altenkirch and John Hall.

“Great logisticians are made. Those of us who lead can all be great logisticians, but we have to focus and work on getting better as a logistician every day,” Civilian Career Logistics Management Office Director Samantha Newman said.
