Williams to run for Holtzclaw’s Senate seat

MADISON – Phil Williams has entered the race for Alabama State Senate District 2.

Currently, Williams serves as District 6 State Representative in the Alabama Legislature. District 6 covers parts of Madison and Limestone counties.

Bill Holtzclaw is not seeking re-election in District 2 but is vying for the seat now held by Mo Brooks in the U.S. Congress.

Williams graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a bachelor’s degree in international business. He began his career as a contract specialist for the U.S. Army in the Small Business and Contracts office.

In 2002, he and his wife Lisa Williams co-founded 3D Research Corporation, which was named to “Inc.” magazine’s fastest growing companies in 2004 and 2005. Schafer Corporation acquired 3D Research in late 2005. Phil Williams also has worked with start-up companies, Synapse Wireless and Soldier 1 Corporation.

In the Alabama legislature, Williams has opposed new taxes, especially the proposed gasoline tax hike and attempts to raise taxes on small businesses and Alabama families, according to his press release. Williams describes himself as a “fiscal conservative” that will work to see tax dollars spent prudently.

In addition, Williams works for increased education funding, especially Alabama’s nationally recognized pre-kindergarten. He worked to pass the Alabama Ahead Act that has brought millions of dollars to Madison and Limestone schools for classroom hands-on technology, the release stated.

Phil was re-elected to the Alabama House in 2010 and 2014 without opposition.

“In the State Senate, I will continue to fight against the business-as-usual mentality that typically results in higher taxes for us,” Williams said. “Alabama deserves leaders that work to solve the problems facing our families and our state — not those that go to Montgomery to play political games.”

“We are blessed in our area with local mayors and leaders that work together as a team to support Redstone Arsenal, UAH, local schools and the economy,” Williams said.

Married 21 years, Phil and Lisa Williams have one son. Phil is a graduate of the Madison County/Huntsville Leadership Program Class 20.

The Republican primary will be held June 5, 2018.
