LifeSouth needs donors after hurricane

MADISON – LifeSouth Community Blood Centers are still in need of blood donors after Hurricane Irma. Donations can help to re-stock the blood supply in Florida.

Hospitals are extremely low on type O blood and platelets of all blood types.

Due to school and business closures, an extreme drop in donations has resulted in Florida. LifeSouth urges the community to visit a donor center or a bloodmobile and donate.

“If you do not know your blood type or have never given blood before, now is a perfect time to start,” District Community Development Coordinator Eric Franchois said.

Donors must be at least 17 years old. Sixteen-year-olds can donate with parental permission, if they weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good health. A photo ID is also required.

LifeSouth’s office address is 8190 Madison Blvd. For more information or to find a blood drive, call 1-888-795-2707, ext: 55003; email egfranchois@lifesouth.org; or visit lifesouth.org.
