Madison Street Festival to affect traffic this weekend

MADISON – On the first Saturday in October, residents anticipate Madison Street Festival in the downtown historical district. Now in its 37th year, the street festival will be held throughout the day on Oct 7.

Madison Police Department alerts motorists that roads will be closed in the downtown area. Main Street will close on Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.

On Oct. 7, the festival will open at 9 a.m. with a parade that will travel west from Insanity Complex along Mill Road, south on Church Street, west on Front Street and north on Sullivan Street. The parade will disband at Madison Elementary School, 17 College St.

Madison police officers will provide traffic control and public safety for the annual street festival. After the parade, Mill Road and Sullivan Street will reopen for traffic, but the remaining roads downtown will remain closed until 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.

The police department urges motorists to take alternate routes for downtown throughout the day.

Madison Street Festival is a celebration of the people, art, food and music of the community. The festival is Madison’s largest event and brings neighbors together for a day of celebration and fun. MSF includes Artist Alley with juried art, car show, children’s area, entertainment on two stages, expo area, arts and crafts in Crafter’s Cove, information booths and delicious food ranging from carnival fare to ethnic cuisine.

For convenient parking, festival visitors can ride free of charge on shuttle buses. The bus that leaves from CrossPointe Church at 78 Hughes Road will deliver passengers downtown on College Street at Church Street. The bus at Madison City Schools Stadium at 211 Celtic Street will take riders to downtown to Martin Street at Garner Street.

Individuals should be aware of pedestrians in the downtown area and should follow all traffic directions from police officers. Do not remove, alter or drive around traffic barricades, cones or other traffic control devices.
