Coaches, mentors named to Bob Jones Hall of Fame

MADISON – Bob Jones High School has six 2017 inductees to its Hall of Fame.

Dick ‘Pops’ Clem was inducted into Towson University’s sports hall of fame for wrestling. He taught for 35 years in Baltimore County, Md. and coached wrestling at Loyola College.

After retiring, Dick and Annette Clem moved to Madison to live near their five grandchildren. In Madison, Dick Clem has coached their grandchildren in youth sports and Bob Jones wrestlers.

Steven Fisher, 1992 Bob Jones graduate, played baseball four years. In the U.S. Army as Aviation Operations Specialist, he deployed six times to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Currently, Fisher serves as Military Deputy Director/Chief of Operations for AMRDEC. Fisher holds a bachelor’s degree from Troy University and graduate degrees from Strayer and Arizona State universities. His wife Pam graduated from Bob Jones in 1991.

Erick Ordonez received All-Metro, All-County honors for Patriot football and All-State track and field. He earned degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering from New Mexico Highlands University and University of Alabama in Huntsville.

At Marshall Space Flight Center, Ordonez works as a system engineer. He founded Rocket City Latin Festival. Erick and wife Veneranda are parents of Bob Jones freshman Noracarol.

Alumni nominated Sheila P. Roberts, formerly Bob Jones College/Career Advisor, for her student advocacy. Roberts now works part time as District College/Career Advisor.

Roberts received degrees from Illinois State University, UNA, UAB and UA. Her grants established Take Action Program, identifying disparity in college admission for impoverished and military-connected students. She guided 2012 graduates to $33-plus million in scholarship offers. She and husband John are parents of Dave and Bara.

Doyle Thornton arrived at Bob Jones in 1989 to a marching band of 17 students. His tireless work led to 250-plus members in marching and concert bands, consistently wining local, regional and national accolades. He has mentored assistant directors, who have succeeded as educators.

Thornton holds degrees from University of Southern Mississippi and Auburn University. He and wife Ginger are parents of one son, Bob.

Steven Woolwine volunteers as cook for Bob Jones fundraisers and campus events. He attended Virginia-Wise College. He and wife Alice are parents of Steven Jr.

Woolwine was volunteer coach in the 1980s, Booster Club president and football ‘chain gang’ member. He enhanced options as Madison’s Director of Recreation in 1980-1991. He was named Bob Jones’ 2000 Patriot of the Year and 1988 State Recreation Director of the Year.
