Emily Jenkins takes the crown at Bob Jones Homecoming

MADISON-  For one game, Emily Jenkins traded in her bibs, band pants, and shako for an evening dress and a crown.

Jenkins bested an impressive field of nine senior maids Aija Abele, Kemi Anderson, Nirah Burwell, Bonnie Dickerson, Kassidy Locke, Anna O’Donnell, Michaela Philip, and Chloe Smith.

The halftime announcement provided some excitement for the large crowd who witnessed an otherwise uneventful 21-0 win for Bob Jones over Grissom.

Jenkins was on homecoming court last year when Carson Grant won. Grant is now at Auburn and plays trumpet in AU marching band. She was unable to attend Friday night.

Jenkins is a senior clarinet player who is no stranger to success. She is the clarinet section leader and on the band leadership council. She is in National Honor Society and vice-president of Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society and a youth leader at her church.

Emily is the daughter of Mary Beth Jenkins and Jim Jenkins. Jim was away in California on a business trip so brother Rob stood in as escort.

“It’s been a great time being with these girls, some of them I’ve known since first grade,” Jenkins said.

Band is obviously a big part of her activity in high school and will be until the competition season ends in about 3 weeks.

“I really enjoyed being in band the last four seasons,” Jenkins said. “It was a lot of fun walking by the band tonight with them cheering me on. We’re all very excited having a band member win for the second straight year.”

But after this year Jenkins will lay down her clarinet.

“Because of the time commitment I am not planning on doing band in college. I’m going to really miss it and it will be weird not being with the band during football games.”

Jenkins has spent most of her time at Bob Jones in the AP classes. She plans to attend Auburn and get an undergraduate degree then go to Physical Therapy school.

“Academically I hold myself to a very high standard,” she said. “I get stressed out if I make a B”.
