Sparkman’s Two-Sport Athlete Lauryn Hall Signs With North Carolina

HARVEST- The years of hours of hard work in and out of the classroom has paid big dividends for Lauryn Hall as the Sparkman High two-sport athlete reached out and signed a letter of intent for a scholarship to attend North Carolina. The Sparkman High senior is an elite track athlete and a member of the school’s basketball cheer squad while a standout student who has a 4.3 GPA.

“I chose North Carolina because of the outstanding sports medicine program they provide and their track team is among the best in the country,” said Hall, who signed with the Tar Heels’ program at her signing at Sparkman High.

Hall is defending state champion in both indoor and outdoor track. In last season’s outdoor state meet she set a new state record of 23.98 seconds in the 200-meter and was among the relay team that also set a new state mark of 46.52 in the 4 X 100 relay. She also won the state mark in the indoor track season a year ago.

“The atmosphere I’m in and have been in there has been no reason not to succeed,” added Hall. “My mother pushes the academics on me while my father pushes the athletics. With my full scholarship I hope to earn my degree in physical therapy and one day would love to be an athletic trainer for a professional sports team.”

Hall was named the school’s girls winner of the 2017 Wendy’s High School Heisman award and was a qualifier for the state award. She said winning the award and being a state qualifier ranked high among her accomplishments and was very proud of her accolades. The daughter of Lamar and Rhonda Hall said her choice of North Carolina came from among several schools who wanted her talents including Kentucky, South Carolina and Miami.

While taking care of her duties as a cheerleader for the school’s basketball teams, Hall is gearing up for the indoor track season which is now underway and will have all of her attention after basketball season for the outdoor track season, which will begin action in early February.

“I’ve always been very competitive since I began in dance and then cheerleading,” said Hall. “Now in track I want to do my best. I push myself. I want to succeed. My hard work has paid off.”
