State Cross Country Championships

MOULTON- Bob Jones sophomore Jean Pierre LeRoux was the top local male runner while Madison Academy junior Julianne Hill was tops in girls action at the 2017 AHSAA State Cross Country Championships held at Moulton’s Oakville Museum and Indian Mounds course.

While the Huntsville Panthers took runner-up spots in both boys and girls divisions, Mountain Brook won the boys and Auburn High the girls in Class 7A. Meanwhile, in Class 4A, Trinity Presbyterian won the boys and Randolph of Huntsville won the girls title for the second consecutive year.

In Class 7A, Leroux was No. 19 overall with a time of 16 minutes, 24.16 seconds. He was the only local runner to finish among the top 50 finishers. Kaylee Stewart of Sparkman was the top girl’s finisher. The senior Senator had a time of 19:57.85 and gave her a No. 38 placement. Junior Elizabeth Holcomb of James Clemens was No. 40 with a finish time of 20:11.56.

In Class 4A, Hill finished among the top 10 with her time of 20:29.59. She finished No. 10.
