Winter weather slows blood donors for LifeSouth
MADISON – Winter storm conditions across Alabama have affected the blood supply. LifeSouth Community Blood Centers urge residents to help by donating blood.
The months of November and December are always slow for blood collections, due to the holidays and travel, but winter storm Benji brought even more obstacles for blood donors and the local blood supply, Eric Franchois said. Franchois works as District Community Development Coordinator in Madison.
Blood drives were halted on Dec. 8 due to dangerous wintry conditions, and the result was a shortage of blood reserves.
Anyone who donates blood before Dec. 21 will have a chance for a substantial price. LifeSouth employees will enter these donors’ names in a drawing to win a 60-inch HDTV. Donors will receive one entry for each donation during the allotted timeframe.
LifeSouth will enter the donor’s name for the drawing when the individual registers to donate blood. The drawing to select the winner will be held on Dec. 22. In addition, all donors will receive a special edition holiday shirt in December while supplies last.
LifeSouth employees encourage residents to visit donor center or blood mobile.
