Current library building closed Dec. 31
MADISON – Madison residents soon will be enjoying larger study spaces, meeting spots, contemporary furnishings … even a fireplace when the new facility for Madison Public Library.
The existing library at 130 Plaza Blvd. closed on Dec. 31 to allow time to move into the new building, which is just east of the current structure on Plaza Boulevard. Anyone who checks out a book at the current library will have a ‘grace period’ due date of Jan. 26, 2018.
Any patron who has placed a book on hold should call another branch to move the hold to that location. Library officials recommend using Monrovia Public Library or Downtown Huntsville Library branches, which are most convenient to Madison.
Huntsville-Madison County Public Library management has hired a moving company to help with the move. Approximately 75,000 items will be moved, including books, paperbacks, periodicals, audio materials, DVDs and newspapers.
Madison librarians do need volunteers to help during the opening of the new library. Any individual who is interested can sign up by visiting the “Volunteer” page at https://hmcpl.galaxydigital.com.
Madison Public Library will host six storytimes in January at Monrovia Public Library while the Madison branch is closed. The storytimes will be for both toddlers and preschoolers and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 2-18 at 9:30 a.m.

In upcoming days, library officials will announce the date for the grand opening of the new Madison Public Library, which will be in late January.
