Kerryon Johnson Declares For NFL Draft

AUBURN- For years growing up in the Huntsville area Kerryon Johnson would visualize his one day playing in the National Football League. His dreams look to become reality this spring as he has officially stated he is entering the 2018 NFL Draft this April and foregoing his senior season at Auburn.

From his Twitter account, Johnson stated, “Thank you all for the endless support that has not always been deserved. I love Auburn and the Auburn family. War Eagle!”

The former Madison Academy standout who was a highly recruited tailback for the Mustangs finished his college play with 519 carries for 2,494 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also was a threat as a pass catcher, kick returner and at times a passer out of the wildcat formation for the Tigers. This past season, Johnson was named the SEC’s Offensive Player of the Year and a second team All-American after posting 1,391 yards rushing and 18 TDs.

He’s expected to be a possible second round draft choice according to many insiders to the upcoming Draft. Some have stated his recent injuries of hamstring, ankle, rib and shoulder could possibly be an issue with the NFL scouts. The 6-foot, 212-pound Johnson is considered the eighth best running back available in the draft according to one recruiting service.

Johnson played for Eric Cohu at Madison Academy where he helped the Mustangs to three consecutive state championships in Class 3A before graduating in 2015. He became a constant contributor for Auburn beginning in his freshman season.

“There aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am of the opportunity Auburn University has given me,” Johnson added.
