Cotton Candies to host first annual Cotton Ball

HUNTSVILLE – The Cotton Candies Marching Krewe will host their first annual Mardi Gras celebration with the premiere of The Cotton Ball on Jan. 20.

Promising to give a fun-filled evening, The Cotton Ball will be held at Straight to Ale Brewing’s Art Room, 2610 Clinton Ave. W. at Campus 805 in Huntsville. Event hours will be 7 to 11 p.m. on Jan. 20.

“The Cotton Candies are excited to host the inaugural Cotton Ball, which we have designed to be a fun Mardi Gras celebration that embraces the carnival spirit to support a local non-profit,” Cotton Candies Krewe President April Black said. “This year, we have selected the Blount Hospitality House” to benefit from the fundraiser.

“Although the event is taking place in Huntsville, we are a Madison-based group,” Black said. For two consecutive years, the Cotton Candies won the “Parade Performance Award” at the Madison Christmas Parade for their crowd-pleasing performance.

The group’s tongue-in-cheek slogan is “The Cotton Candies: A Marching Krewe With a Dancing Problem.”

The first annual Cotton Ball will offer a Mardi Gras party with a twist for a night of dancing and fun. “Pretty in Pink” is the theme for the 2018 ball. Entertainment for the evening will feature live dance music from disc jockey Scott Blakely of Madison, along with performances by the Cotton Candies.

Guests are invited to dress in 1980’s costume, cocktail attire or casual clothing for the event. Pink attire is welcomed but not required.

“We wanted to throw a party that embodies what The Cotton Candies are all about, so don’t expect a stuffy, formal event,” Black said. “We’re here to help the party people of Huntsville get their groove on, so bring your dancing shoes and get ready to party for a great cause!”

A cash bar featuring Straight to Ale brews and cocktails mixed with Shelta Cavern Spirits will be available.

Tickets are limited and can be purchased in advance online at eventbrite.com/e/the-cotton-ball-tickets-39586679825?aff=es2.
