Library’s horror story contest open to teens, adults

MADISON – Writers of all ages can show their macabre inclinations in the Horror Short Story Contest, sponsored by Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

The contest coincides with Madison County Reads, an annual event that the library system sponsors every March. The featured book for 2018 is “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley.

Deadline for story entries is March 1, 2018.

The contest has two age categories: teenagers from 13 through 18 years old, along with adults who are 19 years and older.

Short stories must be 2,000 words or less, typed in 12 point in Times New Roman and include name, age and contact information.

Contestants can email their stories to asprogramming@hmcpl.org or submit the story in person at the closest library branch. Contest coordinators will award first, second and third prizes for the adult and teenager categories.

Coordinators will announce the winner on March 23. For more information, call 256-532-2362 or visit Facebook/Madison Public Library or hmcpl.org/shortstory.
