Jets Win Metro Track Meet

MADISON- The James Clemens track program continues to race through the 2018 season and its competition with both the boys and girls teams taking first place in the Huntsville Metro Track Meet held at the James Clemens track facility. This was the Jets fifth win in the last six years at the annual meet featuring schools from the Huntsville metro area.

Not only did the Jets win the team competition, but also picked up the Most Valuable Player Awards in both boys and girls. Collier Robison took the boys MVP high-point honor by placing first in the long jump (21-feet, 9.5-inches) and triple jump (40-3.25) and second in the high jump (6-2). The girls MVP award was picked up by Ashlee Osaji who won the long jump (17-10.5), triple jump (36-0) and was part of the 4×400 relay (3-minutes, 54.07-seconds) and was runner-up in the 400 (57.76).

“Our athletes broke three metro records, two school records and won 50 medals overall,” said Drew Bell head coach of James Clemens. “Our girls also swept the medals in the 400, 100 hurdles and long jump.”

The new metro records included Zuri Falkner, shot put (41-08), 4×400 relay, Ashlee Osaji, Uriah James, Rachel Seeley, Vada Samuels (3:54.07) and Miguel Cortes, javelin (171-00).

The final team scores in the girls had 1. James Clemens 200.50, 2. Sparkman 88, 4. Bob Jones 70.5, 9. Madison Academy 31. In the boys competition, 1. James Clemens 144, 3. Bob Jones 99, 4. Sparkman 70, 7. Madison Academy 44.

First place performances for the Huntsville Metro Track Meet included, Girls: 100- 1. Lauryn Hall, Sparkman, 12.17; 200- 1. Vada Samuels, James Clemens, 25.07; 400- 1. Vada Samuels, James Clemens, 57.30; 100 hurdles- 1. Shataeya Ligon, James Clemens, 15.14; 4×100- 1. Sparkman, 47.36; 4×400- 1. James Clemens, 3:54.07; 4×800- 1. James Clemens, 10:26.41; high jump- 1. Kiara Hill, Bob Jones, 5-02; pole vault- 1. Emika Miyamoto, Bob Jones, 9-06; long jump- 1. Ashlee Osaji, James Clemens, 17-10.5; triple jump- 1. Ashlee Osaji, James Clemens, 36-00.75; discus- 1. Zuri Falkner, James Clemens, 129-11; javelin- 1. Nicole Harting, Bob Jones, 104-09.

Boys: 100- 1. Charles Lewis, Sparkman, 10.88; 200- 1. Evan Brooks, Madison Academy, 22.45; 400- 1. Nolan Smith, James Clemens, 48.70; 800- 1. Shafi Muhammad, Bob Jones, 2:01.28; 300 hurdles- 1.
