Council to interview school board candidates on April 25

Council to interview school board candidates on April 25

MADISON – Candidates for an opening with Madison Board of Education will have interviews with Madison City Council on April 25.

Council will hold a work session to interview residents who have applied for the slot that David Hergenroeder currently holds. Hergenroeder did not apply for re-appointment.

The session will open at 5:15 p.m. with a discussion of the organization of interviews. Interviews will begin for Madison Board of Education candidates at 5:30 p.m. The work session will be held in Conference Room 130 on the upper level of Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Road.

Council members will vote to select the new school member at their first or second council meeting in May (either May 14 or May 29). The new board member will take office on June 1.

The interviews will be open to the public. However, to avoid distraction during the interview process, doors to the interview room will be closed when an interview begins. Anyone who wants to attend the meeting can enter at the beginning or exit at the conclusion of each interview.

The public will not be allowed to ask questions to any school board candidate.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Hergenroeder retired as colonel in the U.S. Army in 2004. He earned master’s degrees at the University of Washington and National Defense University in Washington D.C., along with a professional engineering license.

During his career, Hergenroeder served in Korea on the DMZ, on Germany’s border during the Cold War and in U.S. border security missions after 9/11. His assignments also took him to Washington, Hawaii, Kansas, Texas and Virginia. He previously taught mechanical engineering at West Point.

In addition to Hergenroeder, current members of Madison Board of Education are President Ranae Bartlett, Vice President Tim Holtcamp, Connie Spears and Luis Ferrer.
