Bob Jones cadets rate well at arsenal drill meet

MADISON – Cadets in Junior ROTC at Bob Jones High School delivered impressive showings at the fifth annual Redstone Sergeants Major Association Drill Competition.

Bob Jones cadets earned first and second places in knock-out drill; armed squad, first place; unarmed squad, second place; armed platoon, first place; unarmed platoon, first place; Color Guard, Team 1, first place; and Color Guard, Team 2, second place.

Bob Jones also earned the distinction of Competition Champions. “We are so proud of these cadets,” aerospace science instructor Ellis Q. Clark said.

In addition, “Our JROTC participated in a Bataan Death March to honor service members who were forced to march an arduous 65 miles to prison camps,” Clark said.

After U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula in World War II, 75,000 Filipino and American troops were forced to march 65 miles to prison camps. Japanese soldiers killed thousands. Soldiers were starved and beaten. When too weak to walk, soldiers were bayoneted, according to a source at Redstone Arsenal.
