Council accepts several donations from community

MADISON – At its May 29 meeting, Madison City Council was happy to accept several donations from community groups and a legislator.

Rotary Club of Madison donated $1,000 to Madison Police Foundation, specifically to support the Reserve Force.

“We feel a kinship with that volunteer force of 10, who epitomizes Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self,'” Rotary President Marc Jacobson. “(The Reserve members) volunteer their time and pay their own way (uniforms, equipment, weapons) to augment our police department, supporting special events and patrolling.”

In addition, council accepted these donations:

* Sen. Bill Holtzclaw — $10,000 for Children’s Garden at Madison Public Library.

* Girl Scout Troop 7193 — 297 pounds of Purina Cat Food valued at $950 for animal control shelter.

* Bob Jones High School and Discovery Middle School Jazz Bands — $460 from Jazz Brunch to benefit Madison Senior Center.

* Chambers Bottling — $33 to Madison Fire and Rescue Fire Department.

Payment of regular and periodic bills included these larger sums:

* OMI Inc. — Earthwork consultant services for Palmer Park improvements, $3,708.

* Mullins LLC — Site plan, bid documents and contract administration for Palmer Park rejuvenation, $21,255.

* BOMAG — Compactor for Public Works Department, $29,529.

* KB Development LLC — Work completed on bridge over Moore’s Branch, $83,030.

Council accepted $5,900 settlement for police vehicle (2011 Ford Crown Victoria) totaled in an accident on April 21.

Mayor Paul Finley announced the groundbreaking for the baseball stadium/multi-use venue on June 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents are invited to festivities at the stadium site off Zierdt Road. Visitors can enjoy free food, contest for “Name the Team” and other activities.

District 1 Councilwoman Maura Wroblewski attended the advisory board’s monthly meeting for Sequel TSI Holdings LLC, owner of the Three Springs facility. Sequel has updated some security measures and sent the documentation to city officials for evaluation.

District 7 Councilman John Seifert said Madison Police Foundation is sponsoring a spring carnival at Spencer Square shopping center, 8760 Madison Blvd. from May 29 through June 2.

In board and committee appointments, Robert Smith will serve in Place 5 for Madison Utilities Board of Directors.

Mary Beth Broeren in Planning presented three rezonings for approval:

* Property owned by Madison-West Inc. at northeast corner of Madison Boulevard and Research Boulevard from M1 (Restricted Industrial) to B3 (General Business District).

* Dr. James G. McMurray’s property at Madison Boulevard and south end of Hughes Road from M1 (Restricted Industrial) to B3 (General Business District).

* Michael R. and Noelle Dehmlow’s property at 210 Patricia Road to R2, Medium Density Residential. The city annexed this property.

For Madison Public Library, council approved contract with 4Site for survey and certified plat of parking expansion, along with agreement with Commercial Landscape Service Inc. for irrigation services in Children’s Garden at $4,000 maximum. Rotary Club will reimburse the payment.

The Legal department received the OK to declare a pump station site as property surplus and to deed the property to landowner.

A public hearing will review the business license of Bivens Mayo for Picture Perfect Kutz.

Council authorized amendments to funding agreement with Town Madison Cooperative District for incentives to Margaritaville Hotel.
