Adult Sports Tournaments Set At Dublin Memorial Park

MADISON- While the temperatures continue to rise with summertime upon the area, to match that searing warmth the action is really beginning to heat up at Dublin Memorial Park for the 2018 Adult Sports Program for ages 18 and older.

“We’ve been working extremely hard to get these programs in place as it’s been a long time waiting and much needed here in Madison,” said Dylan Reutter, program assistant for the Madison Recreation Dept. “Mayor (Paul) Finley is has been very supportive of our efforts of arranging adult sports here in Madison, as he, too, is an active athlete.”

So far, three events of fun and exciting competition is on the books with a special co-ed Dodgeball Tournament on June 23. A maximum of 16 teams will be hosted as each team must have six players to participate with a maximum of 10 players on team roster. The tournament will include three games of round robin with tournament rounds beginning thereafter with single elimination. Each team is guaranteed four games with a 16-team format. Team fee is $45. Prizes will be awarded.

On July 14, a Men’s 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will take place with two age divisions of 18-30 and 31 and older. Each division will max out at 16 teams. Similar to the dodgeball tournament format, the 3-on-3 will host round robin play, which will lead into tournament play and single elimination in place. Team fee is $35. Prizes will be awarded.

On July 21, the gender flip will feature the Women’s 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament with the same information and format as the men’s tournament a week earlier. Team fee is $35 and prizes will be awarded.

Each participant in each tournament will receive a tournament T-shirt. Major sponsor for each tournament is Texas Roadhouse who will offer gift cards to first, second and third place finishers. First place winners will receive a medal, free entry into the next tournament and gift cards.

Reutter said registration forms and information is posted on the social media pages for the Madison Recreation Dept. The same information is also available at Dublin Memorial Park.

Reutter also stated they will begin hosting pickup games for kickball on June 5 on the WESTCO softball fields at Palmer Park. Games will be held each Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00-8:30 p.m. through the entire month of June. Pickup games are free.

The Madison Kickball League will officially kickoff its newest season on July 16 and complete its season on August 22 with an end of season tournament. Each team will have nine players and fee is $15 per person.

“We took a poll on our Facebook page on what sports the adults wanted,” said Reutter. “Residents came up with suggestions and we came up with a game plan to try and accommodate their suggestions. There are other sports that were mentioned in the poll and we’re still looking at those suggestions as well.”
