Historic society members enjoy annual picnic

MADISON – Madison Station Historic Preservation Society hosted its 2018 Summer Picnic in the lush front lawn of Dennis Vaughn’s historic home on Front Street on June 19.

More than 60 society members, their families and guests attended the annual event and enjoyed barbecue and all the ‘fixin’s’ and side dishes.

Historic society president Debbie Overcash welcomed everyone, thanked Dennis for his hospitality, and introduced invited guests Fire Chief David Bailey and his family and Madison City Council members, Teddy Powell, Maura Wroblewski and Tommy Overcash.

“The day could not have been more perfect,” said Debbie Overcash. “This is the largest turnout for the picnic in many years.”

“The weather cooperated, and the members of the MSHPS really shine when it comes to ‘bring a dish to share,'” she said. “Homemade, homemade, homemade … from the delicious sides, salads and over-the-top desserts. All in all, a perfect day in our historic downtown,” she said.

The goal of Madison Station Historic Preservation Society is to preserve history, restore artifacts and bring the community together for the common good.

The society meets monthly on the fourth Thursday at 7 p.m. in City Hall. All local residents are welcome to attend or visit a meeting. For more information, visit historicmadisonstation.com and Facebook/Madison Station Historic Preservation Society.
