James Clemens selects Macklin as leading staff member

MADISON – The staff and faculty of James Clemens High School have selected Macie Macklin as “2018 Staff Member of the Year.”

Finishing her fifth year at James Clemens, Macklin worked as receptionist for two years and as secretary for three years.

“My family teases me about being James Clemens’ biggest fan, and I’m totally OK with that,” Macklin said. “I love coming to work every day.”

“The administration, teachers, fellow staff members and students are nothing short of amazing. I’m constantly in awe of what goes on in this building … be it academics, sports, the arts or community relations,” Macklin said.

When Principal Dr. Brian Clayton interviewed Macklin, he asked where she saw herself in five years. “I told him I’d be working at James Clemens. I knew this is where I wanted to be. To be named staff member of the year is such an honor! I’m always proud to be a Jet.”

Macklin earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University.

The Macklins moved to Madison in 2012 when Jay Macklin became AMCOM Chief of Staff on Redstone Arsenal. Now a retired U.S. Army Colonel, Jay works for Sikorsky Aircraft.

Macie and Jay’s daughter Mollie graduated from Enterprise High School, Auburn University and works as Communications Manager of Insightful Accountant. Daughter Annie and son James graduated from James Clemens; Annie is a senior at the University of Alabama, and James will be a freshman at UA.

As an Army spouse, Macie volunteered during Jay’s 20-plus years of active duty. She served on boards of spouses’ clubs’ in hospitality, membership, programs, scholarship, along with posts of vice president, president and advisor.

“I always enjoyed being a team mom with our children’s teams. Moving so often wasn’t conducive to a career so I was fortunate to stay home with our children, volunteer and explore wherever we were stationed,” Macie said.

“Since we’ve been in Madison, I’ve mostly spent time volunteering with James Clemens Football … Go Jets!” she said.

Macie enjoys decorating, entertaining, shopping and spending time with family and friends.
