Nalley to perform for Music at Messiah

MADISON – Baritone vocalist Andrew Nalley will open the 2018-2019 season of Music at Messiah Classical Concert Series.

Messiah Lutheran Church at 7740 U.S. 72 presents these concerts “to provide high quality classical music performances in Madison. As always, the Music at Messiah concert series is free and open to the public,” concert coordinator John W. Shriver said.

A Huntsville native, Nalley will perform on Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. Ron Guthrie will accompany Nalley on piano.

Nalley’s program will include songs by Henri Duparc; serenades by Schubert, Brahms, Wolf and Strauss; an aria from “Cosi fan Tutte” by Mozart; four songs by Kurt Weill; and songs by Tosti.

A reception with light appetizers will follow the concert. Audience members will have the opportunity to meet the performers.

Nalley earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Alabama. He recently completed a master’s degree in voice performance and pedagogy at the University of Houston.

While in college, Nalley appeared in “L’italiana in Algeri,” “The School for Scandal,” “The Love for Three Oranges,” “Il matrimonio segreto,” “The Crucible” and “Romeo et Juliette.”

In addition, Nalley has played other leading roles in “The Cunning Little Vixen,” “Don Giovanni,” “A Little Night Music,” “The Consul,” “La Cenerentola” and “Così fan tutte.”

Nalley has been a winner and finalist in competitions, such as Alabama’s Young Artist Voice Competition affiliated with Music Teachers National Association or MTNA, Alabama Federation of Music Clubs and Alabama Music Teachers Association.

Future concerts in Music at Messiah’s season include pianists Yakov Kasman and Dina Kasman on Oct. 14, along with Maeve Brophy and Linnea Brophy playing piano and violin, respectively, on Feb. 24, 2019.
