Turner Construction starts work at stadium site

MADISON – The North Alabama office of Turner Construction Company has started construction of the baseball stadium in Town Madison.

Along with minor league baseball, Madison’s $46-million stadium will accommodate up to 7,000 people for soccer and football games, concerts and other events. The stadium’s location is in the eastern section of Town Madison off I-565, adjacent to the new Zierdt Road interchange.

“This venue will make a major impact on the community of Madison and the surrounding area,” Madison Mayor Paul Finley said. “In addition to bringing AA minor league baseball back to the Tennessee Valley, it will provide much needed community space and daily fun, family-type events.”

The club level and suite spaces also can be used for meetings, providing North Alabama companies and private groups with meeting space for 400 people maximum for a sit-down meal.

The venue design has multiple seating options, including group celebration decks, corporate suites, intimate tabletops, party bar and grass berm areas, along with general admission seating, according to a Turner press release. Families will enjoy picnic tables for birthday parties located next to a children’s playground.

“We have enjoyed working with the professionals from Turner as we bring baseball back to North Alabama,” Ralph Nelson said. Nelson is managing partner and CEO of BallCorps LLC.

“Turner has been in the trenches with us since the beginning. They have worked well with the City of Madison, our lead designer, Populous, and BallCorps on making this a first-class facility while maintaining budget consciousness,” Nelson said. “We’re excited that the project is currently ahead of schedule and looking better every day.”

The stadium’s estimated completion date is December 2019. Turner is serving as Construction Manager Agent for the City of Madison and is working with architectural design firm Populous and engineers Mullins LLC (civil), Thornton Tomasetti (structural) and Henderson Engineers (fire protection and audio-visual).

Turner is an industry leader in construction of sports projects, with work on more than 450 professional, collegiate and community ballparks; stadiums; arenas; training facilities; and fitness centers. Other projects include speedways, racetracks and large high schools. Its clients include teams in the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and MLS.

Turner’s resume includes Davidson Center for Space Exploration, Von Braun Center, ADTRAN, Shelby Center at University of Alabama in Huntsville and Raytheon.
