Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders will fight illegal drugs

MADISON – The Partnership for a Drug-Free Community is looking for students to participate in the program, Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders.

Candidates for the program need a positive attitude, average or better grades, good attendance at school and school pride. In addition, these youth will want to make a difference in the community.

Deadline is Sept. 7 for students to apply or for individuals to nominate a teenager.

“The program will influence young people and adults to better understand the impact and dangers of prescription pills,” Partnership executive director Candice Dunaway said. “We are facing the biggest drug epidemic of our time, and it is destroying people of all ages.”

Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders will involve 25 students maximum in grades 9-12. Community leaders and professionals in law enforcement, media and public health will train the students to effectively address dangers of prescription pill abuse, heroin and other drugs.

Selected participants will attend initial meetings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 15 and 22 at the partnership’s office, 2201 Clinton Ave. in Huntsville. Students will receive a free lunch.

Applications are available at tytlonline.com. For more information, call 256-539-7339 or visit partnershipforadrug-freecommunity.org/tyt or tytlonline.com.
