Huntsville rally stuns Sparkman

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville rallied from a two-touchdown deficit Friday night in a 35-26 win over unbeaten Sparkman.

Trailing 20-7 in the second quarter, the Panthers rode the legs of Stoney Patton to take the lead.

Patton scored on a 3-yard run late in the second quarter to cut the Sparkman lead to 20-14 at the half and then scored again with about 9 minutes left in the third quarter for a 21-20 Huntsville lead.

The Panthers ran the lead to 28-20 after Jackson Glover and Drew Purdin combined on a 39-yard touchdown pass midway through the quarter.

The Senators, though, didn’t give up.

After converting a 4th-and-27 in the fourth quarter, Sparkman cut the Huntsville lead to 28-26 when Rondell Cole scored from four yards out.

However, the Panthers wrapped up the win when Patton scored his third touchdown for a 35-26 lead.

The Senators, trailing 7-0, scored three straight touchdowns on runs by Hunter Martin, Chris Joiner and Tavion Rupert for a 20-7 lead in the second quarter.

Huntsville improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Class 7A Region 4 while the Senators (3-1, 2-1) lost for the first time this season.
