Bob Jones Wrestling Team Advances To State Finals

MADISON- The Bob Jones wrestling team is just one match away from defending its Class 7A Duals State Championship.

The Patriots defeated visiting Vestavia Hills 35-28 to advance to Friday’s state finals, which they won a year ago. The Patriots will face Thompson in the finals a team they defeated last year 34-31 to earn the school’s first wrestling state title. Bob Jones will tangle with Thompson at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the CrossPlex in Birmingham.

“Overall, we wrestled well and had great fan support, especially our baseball team as they came out in full-force tonight and really had our backs,” said Matthew Sweatman head coach of Bob Jones. “We will make sure to return that favor when they start their run in the spring.”

The senior class of the Patriots presented Sweatman with the program’s 100th dual victory with the win over Vestavia Hills. Over the last four years since Sweatman’s arrival on campus, Bob Jones is 100-14, which is the most in a four-year span in school history.

“I’m very proud of this senior class and this team for advancing to the state finals in back-to-back seasons,” added Sweatman.
