Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Trey Flowers Looks To The Future
HUNTSVILLE- Trey Flowers is back home in Huntsville still celebrating the 2019 Super Bowl victory as a member of the New England Patriots. Combined with the Super Bowl win of two years ago, the 25-year old three-year NFL veteran has won the most NFL title games than any other Huntsville Region born player in history.
As a 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive lineman for the Patriots, which have now played in three consecutive Super Bowls, Flowers was born at Huntsville Hospital in Aug. 1993 and played at Columbia High and then later for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He still looks at his success in the NFL in sort of being personally awestruck.
“It’s amazing and I’m blessed to be part of a great organization like the Patriots with first-class players,” said Flowers, while visiting his family in Huntsville. “It’s hard to explain the feeling of winning two of the last three Super Bowls. The victory showed how hard we worked all season long.”
New England defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in a surprising defensive battle. Flowers had three tackles for the game and was a constant threat to the Rams’ offense the entire game. He finished the season with 57 tackles and 7.5 sacks. His efforts were rewarded with Flowers being named Second Team NFL All-Pro.
Flowers was drafted in the fourth round by the Patriots in 2015. His current three-year rookie contract will expire in mid-March and although he would like to remain with New England, he understands free agency is just around the corner.
“Once my official contract has ended, other teams I’m sure will reach out to me and I’ll just have to see what comes my way,” said Flowers.
Some around the NFL have indicated the Patriots are eager to resign Flowers as his versatile play on the defensive line is something the squad does not want to give up. Some football experts have said at least a $15-million contract should be coming his way.
The father of two daughters, one age six the other a recent newborn at two months of age, the 25-year old Flowers understands his place in his young career and how family is extremely important to him. After all, he’s one of 10 children and has always had a strong family upbringing as his father always made his children work hard while his mother always made them pray hard.
“I live in Foxboro, the home of the Patriots, and didn’t sleep much after our Super Bowl victory and just two days after the victory we held the celebration parade, which was amazing,” said Flowers. “Having all those fans there was awesome. It’s great to ride the vibe-ride the high waves of victory.”
He’ll wait till March 15 when his contract is over and see what awaits his future with a team that wants him and needs him.
