Trey Flowers Signs Free Agent Contract With Detroit Lions

DETROIT, MI- One of the former members of the Northern League Bulldogs youth football team of Huntsville has hit NFL pay dirt.

Trey Flowers, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, has signed a lucrative contract as a free agent to play with the Detroit Lions. After three seasons with the Patriots, Flowers became free to shop his talents to other NFL teams, and needing some young stability on the defensive line, the Lions signed Flowers to a five-year deal worth $16-million a season.

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound Flowers becomes Detroit’s highest paid defender and is being tabbed as the player that can change the ways of the Lions’ defense.  He was regarded as the best player in the free agency market at defensive line. Flowers can play the edge and can stopped things inside as well.

A three-star recruit at Colombia High in Huntsville, Flowers played for four year at Arkansas before being chosen by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his four years with the Patriots, the first season on the sidelines due an injury, Flowers played in three consecutive Super Bowls winning two. He was named Second Team ALL Pro after the most recent season.

The 25-year old Flowers was sought after by the Lions to bolster a defense that lacks staying power on the defensive side of the ball. He had 21 sacks in his three years on the field for New England and his mobile style of play should be perfect for the flexibility the Lions hope to use in 2019.
