Hwy 72 traffic signal near Limestone Flea Market to become fully operational Tuesday
LIMESTONE COUNTY – The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that the traffic signal at U.S. 72 and Burgreen Road/Dupree Worthey Road will become fully operational Tuesday, June 11. The signal is located near the Limestone Flea Market.
ALDOT anticipates implementing the changes between 9 a.m. and noon. Over the coming days, ALDOT will observe the signal in operation and make adjustments as needed.
The signal, installed in late May, has remained in flash mode the past week to alert drivers to its presence.
The intersection has been the scene of fatal crashes, prompting the new signal.
In June 2018, a Hazel Green motorcyclist was killed in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection, according to state troopers. The motorcycle collided with a car, and that car struck another vehicle, troopers said.
And three Limestone County residents and a Huntsville man died in an early-morning, two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 72 at Burgreen Road in 2015.
