Here are some family-fun summer events planned this week

Here are some of the summer fun, family-friendly events happening this week in and around the Madison area.

Bring your picnic blanket or chairs and join the fun for live music on The Patio. There will be food vendors and lots of fun. Sponsored by the Madison Arts Council.

Visit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Saturn V Hall in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration for the German Biergarten, featuring authentic German cuisine crafted by renowned chefs David Oreskovich and Jason Williams.

Enjoy the festive atmosphere with imported and domestic beers and delicious wines from the German region. Traditional German dancers have been added.  Its family friendly and leashed dogs are welcome on the Apollo Terrace and in Apollo Courtyard.

Visit this downtown open-air market to find locally-grown fruits and vegetables, freshly-prepared meals, traditionally-made relishes and jams plus breads, teas and artwork. Listen to live music as you browse or borrow a bike to cruise around the historic districts. On rainy Thursdays, the market could be relocated to Ridley Hall at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity.

Model Power Boat Association’s International Regatta

There will be over 400 model boats racing throughout the week.  The speeds will be anywhere from 50mph to 90mph. The event starts with speed trials, oval runs, and straight away runs. Heat racing starts on Tuesday with 6 boats on the water at a time.

Music which goes straight to the gut and into your legs, which aims for your heart and soul and always finds its target: there can be no question that Mother’s Finest are among the most energetic and charismatic rock groups on this planet. With their virtuoso vocalist Joyce Kennedy at the epicentre of their soundquake, a tight rhythm section which leaves nothing to be desired and masses of spirited guitar fusillades to make listeners go weak at the knees, this band has long made a name for itself in the annals of rock history. Their latest studio recording Goody Two Shoes & The Filthy Beast is soon scheduled for release. Unknown Lyric will open the show.

Three Caves is located within the Land Trust’s Monte Sano Nature Preserve and has become one of the most unique event venues in North Alabama. This outdoor venue is located just two miles from downtown Huntsville and gets its name from the three cave openings that accentuate and surround the venue. Events are held in the “bowl” outside the mine’s three large openings.

Heritage Church is sponsoring the free concert series on Sundays during June at 6:30 p.m. in Heritage Park, adjacent to the church at 29768 Huntsville Brownsferry Road. This location is about one-quarter mile west of Walgreen’s on County Line Road.

Food trucks will sell their unique recipes for savory and sweet choices. To-date, Bad News BBQ, Fire & Spice, Highway Kabobery, I Love Bacon and Sweet Temptations plan to attend.

 

Old-time Camp Meeting and Baptism at Big Spring – A Juneteenth Celebration

Re-enactment focusing on the role of faith and spirituality in the African American community. Located at the original baptismal site of St. Bartley’s Primitive Baptist Church, the oldest black congregation in Alabama. Processionals will begin simultaneously at the St. Bartley historical marker on Williams Ave., and St. John AME Church at 229 Church St., and converge at Big Spring. Enjoy old-fashioned choral music and church picnic food.

While they’re called many things such as lantern festivals, lights festivals, floating lanterns, or Chinese lanterns – only Water Lantern Festival allows you to Light The Water in a way you’ll never forget. Now you can experience the magic of thousands of lanterns as the soft lights reflect upon the water. Gates open at 4.  Lanterns are decorated at 7:30 and launched at 8.  Live music and food trucks will add to the atmosphere.

 

Church Street Festival of Voices – A Juneteenth Celebration
