Becky Miller has been serving up a fresh devotion every morning for nearly a decade through God’s Lemonade Stand

MADISON – Beck Miller has led an interesting life, from a captain with the 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army to author, with so many life adventures in between.

Today, Miller maintains a daily blog with inspirational reminders of God’s word and its application in our daily lives. For nearly nine years, her “God’s Lemonade Stand” has been a daily source of devotion and thoughtful insights through Facebook and an email distribution list.

“They are capsules of daily encouragement and food for thought based on God’s word,” Miller said. “It’s like a fresh cup of coffee every morning to start your day off right.”

Miller said a specific Bible verse has been an encouragement in her daily writings: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58.

Born in Ohio, Miller has lived in Tennessee Valley since 1999 when the U.S. Army transferred her family from Mesa, Ariz.
Becky spent six years in the Army. She served with 101st Airborne Division and Eagle Support Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky. before leaving the Army as a Captain to pursue motherhood.

She also earned a BS degree in social work from Georgetown College, and used her GI Bill to obtain a MA degree in Agency Counseling from Troy State University.

It was while she was in the Army that she met and later married her husband Colonel (Ret) David P Miller who was a career Army Officer. They have two grown sons, both are Bob Jones and UAB graduates. Matthew is a First officer for a major airline and Jon is an ER Doctor in Boise, Idaho. He and his wife Amber, who is a nurse in Boise, just had their first child. “My best-ever job was being a stay-home mom,” she said. “Now I get to be a grandma! I’m so excited.”

It was shortly after being laid off from Delta Air Lines in 2008 that she thought about Christian writing. She first attended the Kentucky Christian Writers Conference in 2009 and 2010 and began her devotions as a blog in November 2010 after attending “The Arizona Courage To Write Retreat”.

The courage she found to share her daily devotions brought her through the journey to become a self-published author. Miller’s book, “God’s Lemonade Stand: 101 Sips to Refresh Your Soul” was published in 2016.

“Not knowing exactly which route to go in the self-publishing realm, someone suggested a book, ‘From Idea To Published’ by former Madison resident Ronald Long,” Miller said. “Once I finished this book, I was well on my way to knowing how to get my project complete.”

She worked with Draft2Digital and Create Space for the finished products in both e-book and paperback form.

“This book came out of all that and my longtime desire to write a book,” Miller said. “I wanted to write something that would help others and point them towards God’s word in the Bible.”

As far as her blog, Miller says God’s Lemonade Stand will be around for a long time. “If I just get one email from a reader saying that’s exactly what they needed, then it’s all worth it to me,” she said. “I pray every morning that when my writing goes out for that day it will impact someone in a positive way.”

Miller starts off each devotion with a Bible verse, followed by a short thought and wrapped up with a morning prayer. “I try to keep it positive and encouraging,” she said. “It’s to help draw you back to the Bible in a way that makes you think.”
Besides writing, Becky enjoys snow skiing, hiking, running, crafts, and leading Moms in Prayer International College/Career group.
