Jason Watts Takes Over As Athletic Director At James Clemens

MADISON- James Clemens has a new athletic director as Jason Watts was named to the position at the recent Madison City Schools Board Meeting. Watts was at Sparkman High the last four years as athletic director and assistant principal under the guidance of Principal Chris Shaw.

“The past four years working with Mr. Shaw and his team at Sparkman was a great experience and I’m very excited about the move to Madison City Schools and James Clemens High School,” said Watts, who began his new duties last week.

Watts comes to the Jets’ program with 19 years of experience in education with stops at Homewood Middle School from 2000-2013 and Bragg Middle School in Gardendale from 2013-2015 before moving north to Madison County making a home at Sparkman High. As assistant principal, he nourished many ventures into social media, branding and even assisting in the current $18-million expansion of Sparkman and the installing of a new $2.4-million turf field and track.

As a former athlete where he played two seasons for the Samford University football team and as a coach for several sports including football, wrestling, track and basketball, Watts brings a load of experience to the Jets. His knowledge and understanding of the bylaws of the Alabama High School Athletic Association stem from his years as a coach and in school administration. He’s also been a member of the Alabama High School Athletic Coaches Association since 2000.

“I am looking forward to working with Dr. Clayton and the coaching staff at James Clemens to provide our students with an educational experience that is second to none,” said Watts.
