Ask about Social Security options at Sept. 18 meeting

MADISON – Senior citizens and relatives who care for an elderly person can attend an upcoming session to learn about options for Social Security compensation.

This free session will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The meeting will be held at Meadow Green Centre at 9238 Madison Blvd., Suite 1300-A.

Miranda Yount, a financial advisor with Edward Jones investment firm, will host the gathering.

Chris Chapple, Regional Vice President of Prudential Financial, will be guest speaker. His discussion will cover a senior citizen’s benefits available from Social Security.

Chapple will explain the pros and cons of early retirement, which most people can choose at 62 years old. He also will point out the facts of continuing to work until, or beyond, full retirement age at 65 years old.

Whatever plans that a senior citizen has, the meeting can help in deciding about Social Security preferences. For example, how much money will a retiree or retired couple need from other sources to supplement retirement income?

Participants can find out about variable annuities, which is a retirement income strategy that provides a steady stream of income that can help to bridge any gaps, Yount said.

Topics will include maximizing Social Security income for a married couple and the impact and potential costs of starting Social Security benefits before full retirement age, along with the strategies to assist in reducing taxation on Social Security benefits.

Prudential Annuities is providing the workshop for educational purposes only and will not provide investment advice or recommendations about investing a person’s retirement savings.

Space is limited. Individuals interested in the meeting should RSVP by calling Yount at 256-772-2907 or email Miranda.yount@edwardjones.com.
