Huntsville Utilities warns customers of new scam

MADISON COUNTY – Huntsville Utilities alerted their customers of a new scam over the weekend. According to a Facebook post from Huntsville Utilities, customers were targeted Saturday.

“These calls include the newer tactic, where the scammer insists on meeting the target in person at a specific location and being paid in cash,” said a statement from Huntsville Utilities. “If you are called by someone claiming to be from Huntsville Utilities—even if the caller ID reads ‘Huntsville Utilities’—and are told you have to pay or face disconnection within the hour, it is a scam.”

If that happens, the customer is advised to hang up and contact Huntsville Utilities at 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).
