Shelby nominates Madison County students to United States service academies

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) announced Monday that he has nominated 58 students from across the state of Alabama, including nine from Madison County, to attend United States service academies.

Service academies include the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Sean Huh of Madison received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Valerie and Beaver Huh and attends Bob Jones High School.

Jewoong Jeong of Madison received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Sangkok Jeong and Nekyung Lee and is currently a student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Minh Huu Nguyen of Madison received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Tai Nguyen and Tam Phan and attends the Marion Military Institute.

Michael Neftali Pagan-Selby of Madison received a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy.  He is the son of Neftali Pagan-Echevarria and Angela Selby-Pagan and is a student at James Clemens High School.

Madison Marie Rader of Harvest received a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  She is the daughter of Katherine and Jason Rader and attends Sparkman High School.

Jacob Hudson Roper of Owens Cross Roads also received a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is the son of Veronica and Daniel Roper and is a student at Huntsville High School.

Christopher Ford Stokes of Huntsville received a nomination to the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is the son of Barbara and Scott Stokes and attends St. John Paul Catholic High School.

Robert Christopher Barrie of Owens Cross Roads received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Deborah and Robert Barrie and attends Huntsville High School.

Zachary Truman Bone of New Market also received a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy.  He is the son of Avitra and Cary Bone and is a student at Buckhorn High School.

“I am honored to nominate these excellent students from Madison County to various U.S. service academies,” said Senator Shelby.  “Their academic records and achievements outside the classroom ensure they are equipped to succeed in this new endeavor.  I wish them the best of luck in this next chapter and look forward to their future accomplishments.”

In order to be considered for a service academy nomination, applicants must be residents of Alabama and complete the required ACT or SAT exams. They must also provide letters of recommendation, an official school transcript, a qualifying medical examination, and a completed application form found on Senator Shelby’s website.

Although Senator Shelby has nominated these students, the academy to which they received a nomination will make the final admission decision.
