Library to host workshop for Medicare benefits

MADISON – An upcoming workshop at Madison Public Library will explain the myriad of options and decisions that senior citizens face when starting Medicare coverage for health benefits.

“The A, B, C & D’s of Medicare and Social Security Workshop” on Feb. 23 will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the library, 142 Plaza Boulevard in Madison. The session coordinator promises to help with understanding an individual’s rights for Medicare and Social Security.

The session is free and open to the public with first-come, first-served seating in the library auditorium.

Wilson Coffman, owner of Coffman Retirement Group, will be the presenter. Coffman, an Independent Benefits Advisor, specializes in helping people make the transition into receiving Medicare coverage and the years of retirement life.

“We are passionate about educating our community on how to best prepare for retirement,” Coffman stated on his website. “Our informational seminars and workshops simplify complex ideas, offering our clients the opportunity to make reasonable financial decisions.”

Coffman will cover a large amount of material during the workshop:

* Discussion of Medicare supplement, Medicare Select and Medicare Advantage plans.
* Timing of Annual Open Enrollment and Special Enrollment periods.
* Extent of prescription drug coverage with Medicare.
* Transitioning from employment benefits and retirement advising.
* History and future of Social Security.
* Retirement benefits and compensations with Social Security.

In addition, Coffman will discuss Required Minimum Distributions or RMDs, IRAs, the new Secure Act, taxation of benefits and Cost of Living Adjustments or COLAs.
