UAH suspends all athletic activities

HUNTSVILLE – The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics announced on Friday the suspension of all athletics competition along with all out-of-season practices and workouts until further notice due to the growing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.

This rapidly developing situation has warranted consideration of many factors, and the health and welfare of people the department serves is at the forefront of all deliberations concerning these measures.

“There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our students, including our student-athletes,” stated Interim Director of Athletics Dr. Cade Smith. “While I am sad that we have had to suspend activities, I am hopeful that our student-athletes will be able to compete for conference championships this spring season. I am saddened that our track and basketball athletes did not get to compete for an NCAA championship. However, we could not be prouder of them and their accomplishments, both on and off of the field. We will get through this because we have the most important ingredient to any organization: great people! Go Chargers!”

The UAH Department of Athletics will communicate updates as appropriate.
