Moorehouse served as medical officer in Iraq, South Korea

MADISON – Leila Moorehouse’s affiliation with military service started in fall 1995 with ROTC.

Moorehouse entered ROTC at the University of Alabama in Huntsville while studying for a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She later majored in military science at Alabama A&M University.

In 2001, Moorehouse joined the Medical Service Corps in the U.S. Army. She left the military in 2011 as a Captain Promotable.

Her assignments include Baghdad, Iraq as Battalion Medical Officer, Support Officer with 3rd Forward Support Battalion. At Fort Stewart, Ga., she served as Treatment Platoon Leader for that battalion.

Moorehouse was Medical Operations Officer, 1Brigade Combat Team in Tikrit, Iraq.

She then worked as Alpha Company Commander, 16th Medical Logistics Battalion at Camp Carroll, South Korea. At Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Moorehouse was Health Services Materiel Officer and Course Instructor/Writer.

At Fort Hood, Texas, Moorehouse served as Chief of Materiel at Carl R. Darnell Army Medical Center and then as Onsite Program Manager with InGenesis LLC.

She completed the Army Medical Department or AMEDD Officers Basic and Advanced Course, Basic Instructors, AMEDD C&S, Health Services Materiel Officers and Hospital Medical Logistics Course at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Property Book Unit Supply, Camp Walker, South Korea; and Company Commanders Course, Seoul, South Korea.

Moorehouse’s honors include Iraqi Campaign Medal (two stars); medals for Bronze Star, Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, Army Achievement, National Defense Service, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Global War on Terrorism Service and Korean Defense Service; USA/USAF Presidential Unit Citation; Army Superior Unit Award; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; and Combat Medical Badge.

She has lived in Madison since 1985. “My dad Junior Pedroso worked for TVA as a civil structural engineer in Athens, and my mom Lillian Pedroso worked as a graphic editor for Intergraph. Madison is my home of record,” Moorehouse said.

Her husband Dwayne A. Moorehouse retired from military service at the rank of CW4. He is Senior Consultant/President of Eagle Rising Veteran Consultants. The Moorehouses have two daughters who attend Rainbow Elementary School: Leilani Grace, 8, and Lily Adeline, 7.

In volunteering, Leila has worked with Girl Scouts and currently serves as ‘room mom’ at Rainbow and in American Legion Auxiliary.

Leila’s hobbies include arts and crafts, sewing, embroidery, gardening, swimming and volleyball.
