    Jets, Patriots Rule At Lake Guntersville Cross Country

    GUNTERSVILLE- Varsity squads for both Bob Jones and James Clemens took runner-up trophies while the James Clemens junior high teams swept both the boys and girls divisions at the Lake Guntersville Invitational cross country meet. James Clemens also claimed the varsity boys B race championship trophy.

    In boys varsity, junior James Garrison of Bob Jones set a personal best mark of 15 minutes, 59.61 seconds to take the individual race, which featured 44 teams from across Alabama and Tennessee. The remainder of the top 15 finishers included 8. Tyler Gohlich, 11, James Clemens, 16:20.95; 10. Ryan Bender, 11, Bob Jones, 16:28.04; 12. Matthew Hill, 12, James Clemens, 16:32.52; 13. Mateo Santiago, 11, Bob Jones, 16:40.85.

    The team scores featured Independence High of Tennessee winning both the boys and girls varsity divisions. In boys, the Tennessee state’s second ranked team scored 66 points and were followed by Bob Jones in second place with 73 points and James Clemens in third with 102 points.

    In girls, the Lady Jets of James Clemens reclaimed the top spot in the Alabama state rankings with a runner-up spot in Guntersville. The Jets scored 51 points behind Independence, which tallied 18 points for the victory. Bob Jones was seventh with 142 points.

    James Clemens had five girls place among the top 15 in the 5K race and were paced by junior Sydney Freeman who finished eighth with a time of 20:14.76. Others in line among the finishers included 9. Claire Deaton, 10, James Clemens, 20:15.43; 11. Sarah Vaughn, 11, James Clemens, 20:31.25; 12. Emmy Mattingly, 12, James Clemens, 20:36.36; 14. Sarah Shirley, 12, James Clemens, 21:21.35.

    In the varsity B race, James Clemens took the title scoring 44 points while Bob Jones was third with 68 points.

    Individually, the top 15 placements featured 2. Zachary Hinkleman, 11, James Clemens, 18:19.63; 7. Johnathan Ballard, 11, James Clemens, 19:12.66; 8. Quincy Breen, 11, Bob Jones, 19:23.62; 9. Noah Suciu, 11, Bob Jones, 19:29.09; 10. Michael Jupin, 12, James Clemens, 19:31.91; 12. Jahir Sanchez, 12, James Clemens, 19:36.28; 13. Matthew Holder, 11, James Clemens, 19:44.48; 14. Anthony Kosinski, 11, James Clemens, 19:51.98; 15. Cole Smelser, 10, Bob Jones, 19:58.39.

    The middle school (junior high) divisions were dominated by James Clemens. The young Jets captured both boys and girls titles with the girls coming close to a perfect score by taking the top four positions and seven among the top 15 runners. The boys placed seven runners among the top eight finishers. In team scores, James Clemens tallied 18 points while Bob Jones was fourth with 86 points. In boys, the Jets scored 16 points while the Patriots of Bob Jones scored 101 points for fourth place.

    Dylan Dryer, a freshman, set a personal and school record with a time of 11:10.19. He was followed by 2. Brexton Hathaway, 9, James Clemens, 11:13; 3. John Luke Stovall, 9, James Clemens, 11:19; 4. Cole Robinson, 9, James Clemens, 11:42.04; 6. Roman Barnes, 9, James Clemens, 12:13.00; 7. Jacob Velez, 9, James Clemens, 12:20.00; 8. Owen Crow, 9, Bob Jones, 12:23.25; 9. Nicholas Lozano, 10, Bob Jones, 12:28.82; 14. Ethan Brewer, 8, James Clemens, 12:45.00; 15. Andrew Gohlich, 8, James Clemens, 12:48.49.

    Kylie Gero, standout eighth grader for James Clemens, took the girls title with a personal best time of 12:35.24. She was followed among the top 15 by 2. Kayla Willett, 9, James Clemens, 13:03.37; 3. Ella Carter, 7, James Clemens, 13:19.64; 4. Ashlyn Diehl, 9, James Clemens, 13:33.51; 9. Andie Howard, 8, James Clemens, 14:13.00; 11. Kricket Johnston, 9, Bob Jones, 14:18.05; 12. Catherine Rushton, 7, James Clemens, 14:19.00; 15. Brittain Mattingly, James Clemens, 14:53.83.
