Subramani reigns as Distinguished Young Woman for Limestone County

MADISON – Sneha Subramani, a resident of Madison, has claimed the title of 2021 Distinguished Young Woman of Limestone County.

Other women who are representing their home counties in North Alabama as Distinguished Young Woman are Morgan Carroll, Lawrence County, and Anna Swindell, Morgan County. Claire Congo of Madison is the 2021 Distinguished Young Woman for Madison County; Congo is a senior at James Clemens High School.

Subramani, also a senior at James Clemens, serves as the official videographer for the Jets Football team. She participates in Student Government Association, Beta Club as historian, JetsPress Film Club and in the planned musical, “Matilda,” as a featured dancer.

Subramani plans to attend the University of Alabama with a major in political science and economics. She eventually wants to pursue a career as a lawyer.

For her talent presentation for the Distinguished Young Woman program, Subramani presented an interpretative dance to “Trouble” by Omar Apollo.

Founded in 1958 in Mobile, Distinguished Young Woman is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. The program formerly was named ‘America’s Junior Miss.’

Distinguished Young Woman has provided life-changing experiences for more than 700,000 young women across the country and more than $93 million in cash scholarships at the local, state and national levels. In addition to cash scholarships, Distinguished Young Woman participants are eligible for college-granted scholarships from about 200 colleges and universities.

The program provided more than $108 million in college scholarship opportunities last year. Some of this assistance included full tuition, along with room and board expenses to first-class institutions.

Many participants leave the program with scholarships to help them with their college educations, but all of them walk away with friendships, life skills and increased self-confidence. Distinguished Young Woman strives to give every young woman the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future.

In addition, Distinguished Young Woman participants can attend Life Skills Workshops to gain insight that will serve them well in scholarship program and in life beyond high school. Core workshops include interviewing skills, public speaking and “Be Your Best Self,” an outreach program that stresses making positive choices now and in the future.
