$32,000 donation to help local teachers attain National Board Certification

MADISON – Madison City Schools received a generous $32,000 contribution this week from the local Schools Foundation to help MCS teachers attain National Board Certification.
In a five-year initiative called the “Raise Your Hand” campaign, the ultimate goal by the Schools Foundation and its partners is to for 27 percent of the teacher workforce in Madison City, Huntsville and Madison County school districts to be a NBCT (National Board Certified Teacher). School leaders say that would make this area the national leader in NBCT status among the Huntsville metro area’s peer cities.
National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in K-12 education, currently held by only 3 percent of teachers in the United States. Statistics show impressive learning gains by students taught by NBCT teachers and a tremendous return on investment for their respective communities.
