Madison schools to operate virtually in Wednesday due to weather

MADISON – Madison City Schools will operate virtually on Wednesday due to the winter weather. MCS superintendent Dr. Ed Nichols said the extreme cold temperatures, challenges to the HVAC systems in some of the schools, and hazardous conditions on some secondary roads, it would be best to hold classes on a virtual schedule.  This includes elementary, middle and high school students.

High school and middle school students have already been operating under a hybrid learning schedule, a mixture if virtual and in-person classes due to recent COVID cases within the schools. Nichols said Tuesday that schedule will end soon.

“All school-based secondary students will return to in-person learning on March 1. Elementary schools will continue to have all school-based students learning in-person. Starting with the week of February 22, all students (elementary, middle, and high) will operate under virtual Fridays; lessons on virtual Fridays will be asynchronous,” he said.

“I want to thank everyone for their understanding as we work through these changing circumstances. We will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates accordingly,” Nichols added.
