‘Do Superheroes Go to School?’ Jennifer Lee Corley’s book has the answer

MADISON – Respecting reading’s importance in a child’s life, teacher and author Jennifer Lee Corley has released her second book, “Do Superheroes Go to School?”

“I hope my books bring joy to families,” Corley said. “Reading is so very important in a child’s development. I hope my books model positive characters (superheroes!) going through routines found in most households and schools.”

Always an avid writer, Corley would develop stories with her children when they were younger. The Corley family are fans of “all things Marvel, including books, movies, TV shows and comics. One day my son asked me if superheroes brush their teeth. In that moment, I knew his question could be the title of a children’s book.”

Corley first taught third- and fourth-graders in Florida for 10 years. At West Madison Elementary School, she taught both sixth grade and kindergarten and is resuming with kindergartners at Midtown Elementary School.

For her first book, she read virtually to her students and then in-person in West Madison classrooms at teachers’ invitations. When Midtown opens, Corley will read both of her books to her students.

Published in early 2021, Corley’s first book, “Do Superheroes Brush Their Teeth?” features superheroes as main characters — a man, woman and two children. “Since my sons gave me the idea, I wanted to write a story depicting heroes doing normal everyday activities, like brushing their teeth. Written with rhymes on every page (excellent for phonemic awareness), the characters go through their normal daily routines from waking up with the rising sun to reading books at bedtime,” Corley said.

Corley’s new book, “Do Superheroes Go to School?” has the same characters but in a school setting. The female superhero is principal, male superhero is a teacher, and child superheroes are students. “How do superheroes get so brave, smart and kind? They go to school each day with an open mind,” Corley wrote.

“Since I’m an educator, I thought school would be a perfect setting for the superheroes. Through rhyme, the heroes model a typical school day, learning with an open heart, being kind to others and exploring the arts,” Corley said.

In addition, Corley has designed a weekly planner that will accompany her book, “Do Superheroes Go to School?”

Jennifer’s husband, Jonah Corley, is General Manager of Valicor Environmental Services. Their nine-year-old twin sons, Lincoln and Jameson, will be fourth-graders at Midtown.

Individuals can follow Corley on Facebook and Instagram. Corley’s books are available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Snailonthewall.com and from the local publishing company, twogirlsandareadingcorner.com.
